Sustainable Freedom with Boudoir Photography Podcast
{Returning Soon } How do I get more clients in my photography business? When should I raise my prices? Can I make enough money with photography to support my family? What are the best ways to advertise my photography business? Which business model is best for my photography business? And the most asked question of all, can I really charge more, work less, and enjoy photography on a deeper creative level? Whether you’re a newbie photographer, it’s your side hustle, or you’re a seasoned pro, this show was made for you. The Sustainable Freedom with Photography Podcast helps photographers get out of their ruts, sticking points, and holdups, because too many have traded in their 9-to-5 jobs for 24-7 hustles. We’ll shake off those feelings of uncertainty and self-doubt to uncover the business you’ve been dreaming about—and give it the TLC it needs to thrive, without you working (or wandering) in overdrive. Host Tracy Lynn brings you marketing and business strategies, productivity tips, inspirational stories, and hard truths, but she does it with kindness, compassion, and empathy—earning the trust of photographers all over the world. She also shares actionable advice she used to build her seven figure boudoir photography studio in Saint Louis, MO working just 30 hours a month. Along with sharing this wealth of knowledge, she also interviews women creatives in the industry who support photographers, as well as past clients, and other photographers who’ve achieved some of their biggest goals.

What’s one key ingredient in a healthy relationship? And by that, I mean a relationship between a professional photographer and their client? Boundaries. Boundaries help you avoid burnout. They also help your clients feel more confident in you because they know what to expect.
It’s not easy drawing the line and standing up to clients when you have to, but setting boundaries is important. They’ll protect your health as well as your business. And they’re part of providing an amazing experience for your photography clients.
Let’s talk about a few crucial boundaries every photographer should have with their clients and why they are necessary to your photography business.

What’s one business “rule” that you found online, or someone told you to follow? Like “fake it until you make it” or “it takes money to make money.” These rules get thrown around a lot because, honestly, they work for some people. And they can inspire many people.
These rules are great and all, but the truth is, you don’t have to follow them! Here are three pieces of advice you’ve probably heard since you got into the photography business — and my take on why you should bend or break them.

Earlier this summer on the Sustainable Freedom with Photography Podcast, I interviewed Faith Ray of Faith Ray Boudoir. We met in September 2021, and since then, we’ve been working together on her boudoir business. (You can hear all the details in our past episode!)
At the beginning, a boudoir photo business was just a dream for Faith. But she’s had such an incredible journey building her biz, booking clients, and even moving cities in Texas. She’s even booked out until the end of this year!
That’s why I wanted to bring Faith back onto the podcast to see what’s changed and what’s in store for the future. I also wanted to talk to her husband, Robby, to get his perspective on seeing his spouse build a successful business from the ground up.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a lot of changes to business owners — some good, some not so much. One of the good changes is how we treat the people we serve in our businesses. We’ve become more aware of how important it is to treat others with kindness and respect, while still setting and maintaining clear boundaries.
Just like any other business, you need both accountability and compassion to make your boudoir photography business a success.

What makes your boudoir photography business a success? Like, what does it take? Sure, you need some skill behind the camera. Creativity helps. Knowing how to encourage clients to feel comfortable to look natural and beautiful helps, too.
That’s the “photography” side of the business. What about the “business” side of your business? To me, the two biggest elements of a successful boudoir business are:
pricing your services according to your worth
having an effective marketing strategy.
For creative professionals like you and me, the photography side is usually a breeze. It’s these other elements that can be challenging. But I’m here to help you out, so let’s talk about how you can price your services accurately and market your business well.

How to Build a Boudoir Photography Business That’s YOURS
One great thing about being an entrepreneur and photographer? Meeting other creatives in the industry. It’s a great way to make friends and bond over your experiences and become better professionals.
However, I’ve seen photographers take their inspiration and admiration for each other a little bit too far. That’s when branding, services, and business models start to look alike.
Modeling your boudoir photography business after another person’s can be tempting because it feels safer. But you’re selling yourself short, my friend.
I encourage you to build your business not on someone else’s success but on your hopes and dreams, your vision…you. I can help!

When I moved to St. Louis, it took about 8 months to book my first boudoir photography client. On the other hand, my 1:1 photography coaching client, Faith, had sessions booked BEFORE she moved to her new city because she learned from my mistakes.
In this episode, I talk about three steps to make sure you're fully booked before moving your studio to a new area.
